Thomas Doyle as forbidding not only marriage but also any kind of romantic or sexual relationship or sexual contact with any other person in any degree (Frawley-ODea 87). It is a vow that men who become ordained members of the clergy and women who become nuns must take (Frawley-ODea 88). Howev er, mental health counselor Richard Sipe found from his research that that only half of the 2,776 active and resigned priests that he collected data from for over 40 years (1960-2002) were committed to celibacy (Frawley-ODea 91). Twenty-eight percent of the priests were sexually active with women, 11 percent homosexually active, and 5 percent were involved with other types of sexual pursuits, such as cross-dressing and masturbation (Frawley-ODea 91). Sipe guessed that the remaining 6 percent [were] sexually active with minors, a percentage that was consistent with the results of the John Jay Study of abusive priests between 1950 and 2002 (Frawley-ODea 91). The problem seems to be that priests dont take their vows seriously and that many of them acknowledged that celibacy was neither relevant nor observed within their priesthoods (Frawley-ODea 92) This reflects the attitude that celibacy is optional. Additionally, because of the way the church treats the topic as taboo, it leaves many priests unable to have open discussion[s], [analyses], and confrontation[s] (Frawley-ODea 92). This leads to secrecy, denial, and shame which could cause the priests to feel unable to come forward and seek help with their struggl es of lust and lack of restraint. Without seeking the help they need they allow their problems to fester and even get worse, until it becomes years and years of cases of abuse. Meanwhile, other commentators feel that it wasnt the celibacy, but rather the lapse of it that was allowed by fellow clergy members. They believe that the system of cover-up, blackmail, and fear of persecution that priests have contrived out of their own selfish desires are the biggest part of the reason why abuse in the church occurs in such magnitude. In 2002, the world was brought into this secret system when about 200 people came forward so far with stories of abuse by priest John J. Geoghan (Betrayal 14). Geoghan was known by the church nearly his whole profession to be a serial rapist yet was somehow allowed to continue to be involved with the church for over 30 years (Betrayal 31-33). The question then is whether or not minimum wage is good for the people then my answer would certainly lead me to assert that it is good for the people. The concept of goodness or badness is not the issue here but I believe that the concept of bad and good would spring from the idea if whether or not minimum wage law is beneficial. After clarifying this point, my argument would then have to be lean towards proving the beneficence of minimum wage law particularly in the United States. Minimum wage is under the Wage and Hour Division. It was said that minimum wage is part of the labor laws that the United States of America has. It is dully under the Fair Labor Standards Act that employees should receive a minimum wage rate of $5.85 per hour as of July 24, 2007 (â€Å"General Information on the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA),† 2007).   This provision is used in order to address the growing economic factor of the land. It could be inferred that the increase in the minimum wage would be to address the growing cost of living. Employers then should be able to address these changes for the benefit of their employees and for the benefit of a good working condition and ambiance for the employees that would lead to an established quality of the goods to be products. Minimum wage law then has two beneficial outcomes. GOOD OR BAD? First is that since it was made to protect the workers, then this could be an assurance that the people who are working would have the fair amount of share from the labor that they have done for the employer. Also in connection to this perspective is that the workers would be protected against abusive employers. Without the Minimum Wage law then the employer could just impose on unfair hour rates and even unfair working hours. It could be seen then that a person who are naà ¯ve about the rules of the Labor domain would be lost. Realistically speaking, some employers could become abusive with the labor rights of their employees. The main reason for this would be a twisted sense of fairness and a dosage of greed. The Minimum wage law then would be an assurance to the workers that they are protected from these kinds of employers. The next step then that the government has to do is to ensure that the rules would be followed and that they should be able to uphold their own laws. Some countries are unfortunate when it comes to the implementations of the laws. The rules may be set but there could be some employers who would feed on the ignorance of their workers. This would be deceitful but as I have said earlier, this is greed that drives them.   Second is that it would also be beneficial for the employers as well. A healthy or conducive ambiance for work would mean that an employer could address the needs of the employees. The supposed needs then are the monetary factor of the work. If the employers could satisfy this basic need then the services could either be maintained or it will grow considerably. It was said that a person’s capability in his/her work may be related to the job strain that he/she would feel (Gretchen M. Spreitzer, 1997). If this is the case then the efficiency of a worker’s job would then be affected if his/her stressful disposition would not be improved. This stressful disposition may be due to the strain that he/she might be feeling when it comes to his personal matters. Some people may frown on this point since work ethics would declare that personal matters should not be mixed with business matters. But psychological impacts could not be easily dismissed in this case. A problem would then arise in the work place. The objective of the government then to put up this law is noble. But what should be taken into account then is the implementation of this law. People should then spread the awareness of this law so as those who are abused by their employers could clamor for their own labor rights. One of the problems in the labor sector is the wage problems and I believe that the minimum wage law could ensure that the rights of the workers could be fulfilled. The question of its beneficence then would be the next recourse. It could be inferred then that the beneficence of the said law then could be considered good. Since it was already stated before that the goodness or badness of the topic would be regarded through the beneficence that the law would bring then it would be remarked that the minimum wage law is a good output. Moreover, the feedback or questions posed by a listener are determined by what he/she may have heard from the speaker. Thus, the notion underpinned by this aspect is that active listening is necessary for a conversation. Active listening does not only entail hearing what is said but also understanding the message passed across. For this reason, one is obliged to pay attention to the speaker. According to Ferrari-Bridgers, Vogel and Lynch (2015, p. 9) listening is an active process that assumes certain elemental stages. Firstly, listening requires hearing. In this case, the listener listens to what the speaker says. The second stage is the understanding stage where the listener conceptualizes what he/she has heard. The l istener, therefore, interprets the message according to their understanding. Third, is the judgment stage. In this stage, the listener gauges whether what was said makes sense. For communication to be considered effective, the receiver must be a good listener (Brink and Costigan, 2015, p. 211). That is, one must give full attention to the speaker, have open mind and remain focused, allow turn taking in a conversation, listening before providing feedback, capture both minor and main ideas and ask questions where and when necessary. Through active listening, the listener can understand both surface and deep meaning of a give message. It also helps one to perceive the intended message thus avoiding confusion and misunderstanding. Roberston (2005, p. 1053) argues that listening skill is one of the soft skills for accountants. As an accountant one ought to communicate effectively with colleagues and clients thus listening is as important as speaking. Since accounting and the field of business require maximum interaction between the professional and the clients, listening skill is integral in such a context (Evans, 2015, p.38). For instance, one may meet a customer to discuss business ideas. The professional should give the client adequate time to share their opinions before he/she provides a response. This promotes understanding between the two parties and is essential to the profession since listening rules out unnecessary judgments. Typically, when two or more people are involved in a communicative context, there is always the speaker and the listener. Logically, while one person is talking the other(s) listen and also provide feedback when necessary. As a matter of fact, the aspect of feedback is inevitable in the sense that it is a skill that dominates communication exchange. Feedback is relayed in different ways that include and not limited to tone, words used, silences or body language (Ragland and Ramachandran, 2014, p.119). Whilst communication is inescapably an interactive experience it is defined by giving and receiving of Feedback. Feedback can be positive or negative. Whereas a positive feedback may encourage a speaker to continue talking, a negative feedback may dissuade the speaker from engaging in the communication. For instance, feedback should be based on clarity. In other words, feedback should not be ambiguous so as to ensure that the receiver understands it. Within the field of accounting, feedback is deemed essential in that it can and do play a vital role in the implementation of an organization's goals, strategies and also assists in learning. As a result, feedback be comes paramount in that the personnel ought to work interdependently. Questioning is at the heart of effective communication and exchange of information. Questioning in communication is important when one seeks for clarity, understanding or when one requires more information. Signs- Unable to pay normal bills attend outings or maintain their hobbies. They may behave differently around specific people becoming Angry or withdrawn. Institutional Abuse- is when people are treated as a group and not as individuals by an organization or care provider, such as set mealtimes and meals, bedtimes. Signs- rebellious behavior, loss of self-esteem with possible depression, may become angry with family, friends and advocates. Self-Neglect- This situation needs to be monitored over time to establish if this is Personal choice or mental health onset. Staff MUST NOT impose their own personal beliefs; it is the service user’s choice to maintain their own standards and values as part of their own individuality. Signs- when a service user’s own standards are gradually slipping and they are not expressing this as a personal choice. Staff must record all findings and discuss with the team, managers. If the service user is putting themselves or others at risk then a multi-disciplinary team will form to plan with service user agreed boundaries to keep all parties safe. Neglect by â€Å"others†- This is when â€Å"care† is not provided for a person and they suffer because of it. Signs- Over use of PRN medication. Bed sores and urine burns, Decline in the service users appearance. The service user may be withdrawn or angry, suffer from low self-esteem. Suspicion requires ACTION!!!! If you suspect Abuse or the service user reports abuse to you MUST ACT: 1 Protect The service user must be protected from the alleged abuser; they must be made safe given assurances and feel supported. They must have Medical treatment if required. They may need you to contact their friends or family for further emotional support. 2 Report Staff must report ALL suspicions of abuse and allegations of abuse made by the service user to their line manager as soon as possible. Management will inform social workers and the Adults at Risk help desk, they will instruct you to contact the police if necessary. Company policies must be followed:- Use TED (tell me, explain to me, describe to me ) to record the allegation this must not include staff members thoughts or feelings ONLY facts. Write appointment sheets if medical or police contact is made to include names, addresses and contact details. Record the outcome of each meeting. 3 Preserve Preserve any/ all of the evidence of the potential abuse. This could be a crime scene, with valuable evidence for a conviction. If in the case of sexual abuse then the forensic evidence will be necessary, discourage the service user from:- *cleaning up the area in which the alleged crime took place *Do not remove bedding or clothing * They Must not was or shower, brush hair or teeth * Keep everyone else out of the area to reduce contamination 4 Record and Refer All information the staff may have whether it be an allegation, hard evidence or simply a suspicion of abuse, it must be properly recorded in the daily notes or on statement sheets that are given to your line manager. Always record observations things you have seen or heard yourself and remember this is a legal document and you may be required to attend a court hearing. The service user in some cases will be directed to give a full account of the alleged abuse to the police which will be recorded and transcribe. All documentation of information or details of allegations should be given directly to your line manager to be stored in a safe place and made ready for the other agencies involved to access if necessary, this information is kept private and confidential to protect the service user and the investigation process. People who may be part of the multi-disciplinary team: – in the event of sexual abuse Managers -They usually refer information to the social workers and adult at risk Help Desk, they would update risk assessments and put preferred staff in place. Adult Help Desk – the managers call the help desk to inform and seek advice on specific protocol for the management of the incident. The help Desk inform social services and are the central contact threw out the gathering of information process. Social workers- To be made aware of the situation and be informed of advice/ requests made by Managers and the Adult help desk team. Police – Take professional statements and organise the collection of evidence from the scene. In the case of rape, the police will send the victim to a rape sweet to collect evidence from their person. They will give advice and support to the victim and informat ion to pass on to management and the help desk team. Family or Advocate – to assist in the support of the service user, to help them feel safe and support them to feel part of the process and understand the process. Doctors –Assist with any treatment of injuries. Offer meditational support for depression or high anxiety if required. CPN – To help ensure existing mental health issues do not deteriorate due to incident. Support workers – Preferred staff would offer on-going support to the service user for a period of time until the evidence had been gathered and the investigation was complete, and the multi-disciplinary team could put a plan together.
